Herb Adderley graduated from Northeast High School in Philadelphia in 1957, where he starred as an athlete and won All-City Honors in football, basketball and baseball.  Adderley would then go to college at Michigan State University.  During his college career, Herb played RB.  He played a total of 27 games in which he totaled 198 carries, gained 807 yards, hauled in 28 catches for 519 yards, and, had a total of 8 TD's.  As a senior, Herb was a co-captain and was a member of the All-Big Ten Conference team.  He was subsequently drafted in 1961 in the first round of the NFL (National Football League).  Herb was selected at #12 overall by the Green Bay Packers (Vince Lombardi).  While playing professional football, Herb was converted from RB to CB.  He Also helped with kick returns.  Herb was a 5 time All-NFL selection during the 1960's when playing with the Green Bay Packers from 1961-1969, earning five NFL championships.  Later in his NFL career, Herb was traded to the Dallas Cowboys in 1970 and played until 1972 when he retired from professional football.  Of the Super Bowl era, Herb played in 4 of the first six Super Bowls earning 2 championships with the Packers and one with the Cowboys (while also playing with the Cowboys in a losing effort against the Baltimore Colts in Super Bowl V).  As a Cornerback in the NFL, Herb recorded 48 interceptions, which he returned for 1,046 yards and seven touchdowns, while averaging 21.8 yards per return.  He also recovered 14 fumbles (returning them for 65 yards), and, he returned 120 kicks for 3,080 yards and two TD's.  Herb was inducted into the Pro Football Hall Of Fame in 1980 as a member of the Green Bay Packers.  Herbert Allen Adderley passed away on October 30, 2020.   This posting was submitted by a relative.
